A shop owner who opened pesticide and fertiliser containers and repackaged them without official approval has been fined BD2,200 by the Lower Criminal Court.
The man, whose age and nationality were not disclosed, was also found guilty of importing and distributing expired pesticides without a licence. Additionally, expired products intended for sale were discovered.
The Public Prosecution said, in a statement yesterday, that it launched an investigation after receiving a report on the man from the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry.
The shop owner was questioned and statements taken from the relevant law enforcement officers.
The defendant was then referred to the Lower Criminal Court.
The authorities emphasised the importance of complying with legal regulations related to the potential risks of hazardous chemicals and pesticides, and to ensure public safety and consumer protection in Bahrain.
