Ten defendants, including two Bahrainis and eight expatriates, have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from two to three months each and fined for helping domestic workers reside illegally in the country and provide hourly home cleaning services.
The Lower Criminal Court also ordered the expat defendants deported from the kingdom after serving their sentence.
According to the details of the case, the Public Prosecution received a report from the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs about a Bahraini man and his wife harbouring five domestic workers, described only as Asian, illegally for the purpose of providing an hourly home cleaning service.
This was reportedly done with the assistance of three Asian defendants.
The Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation upon being notified of the incident, and interrogated the Bahraini defendants and domestic workers.
They were then arrested and referred for trial at the Lower Criminal Court.
