An agreement to host the third Asian Youth Games (AYG), taking place for the first time in the kingdom from October 22 to 31, at the Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) in Sakhir has been signed.
The games are being held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad.
The signing ceremony was attended by Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) chief executive and EWB chairperson Sara Buhiji and Bahrain Olympic Committee secretary-general Faris Al Kooheji.
The agreement was signed by AYG executive committee chairman Yousef Duaij and EWB general manager Alan Pryor.
As part of the agreement, EWB will host the opening ceremony, which will be held indoors for the first time, along with 11 of the scheduled sports in state-of-the-art facilities.
Ms Buhiji reiterated her commitment to ensuring the successful delivery of the games and reinforcing Bahrain’s status as a premier destination for global sports and events.
“We at EWB take pride in hosting the competition as we welcome thousands of young athletes from across Asia to compete at the highest level,” she said.
“EWB’s cutting-edge facilities and strategic location make it an ideal stage for showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship, unity and excellence that these games represent.
“Hosting these Games is a testament to our ability to deliver unforgettable experiences and solidifies our position as a world-class venue for international sporting events and an ideal venue for indoor championships.”
