Budding filmmakers in Bahrain are being invited to take part in the second edition of a competition being organised by the French Embassy and the Bahrain Film Festival.
The 48th Film Challenge, which is supported by the Information Ministry and the prestigious French film school ESRA, will run from September 11 to 13 this year.
Before the actual competition, which is open to Bahraini nationals and residents aged 18-30 of all levels of experience, participants will take part in a series of preliminary workshops covering fundamentals of scriptwriting, directing, editing and production.
The sessions will be guided by experienced French cinema professionals, including Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival programmer and jury member Camille Varenne, and multi-award-winning French-Moroccan filmmaker and actor Ayoub Layoussifi.
The completed films will be premiered during the Fifth Bahrain Film Festival, scheduled to be held from October 30 to November 4, with the winner announced at a special closing ceremony.
One winner will receive a fully-sponsored scholarship to attend a one-month summer school on the Paris campus of ESRA. Flight, accommodation and tuition fees will be fully covered.
The deadline to apply is tomorrow and application forms are available on Instagram accounts @francebahrein, @bahraincineclub, or @filmfestivalbh.
