A project that aims to develop an advanced digital platform enabling real-time monitoring of food security indicators and providing an early warning system to address potential crises and challenges has been discussed at a meeting of a key information technology committee.
Procurement requests by government entities valued at approximately BD2 million were also discussed at the first meeting of the ICT Governance Committee’s (ICTGC) third term, chaired by Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) chief executive Mohammed Al Qaed.
The meeting follows the establishment of the committee through a decision by Interior Minister and ministerial committee for information and communication technology chairman General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
Mr Al Qaed welcomed the attendees, including new members that recently joined the committee, Noora Al Assam, representing the Finance and National Economy Ministry; and Dr Mazen Mohammed Ali, representing the University of Bahrain.
The committee’s chairman extended thanks and appreciation to previous members Abdulla Ahmed Dhaif, Finance and National Economy Ministry; and Dr Hessa Jassim Al Junaid, UoB; for their contributions during the committee’s previous term.
The committee reviewed several items, including the Bahrain Food Security Watch project submitted by the Industry and Commerce Ministry, which aims to develop an advanced digital platform enabling the real-time monitoring of food security indicators and providing an early warning system to address potential crises and challenges.
It will assist decision-makers in setting strategic plans and implementing preventive and corrective measures, with the aim of improving Bahrain’s ranking on the Global Food Security Index.
The committee members addressed a number of projects and procurement requests related to the development of information systems at various government entities.
