Ten candidates are in the fray for the eight board seats in today’s elections for the Bahrain Journalists’ Association.
They are Hind Ahmed Karam, Rasha Al Ibrahim, Lulwa Bu Dlama, Yasmeen Al Aqaidat, Rashid Al Hamar, Mohammed Bahr, Saeed Mohammed, Faisal Al Ali, Saud Al Jowder, and Mansour Shaker. The association’s candidate review committee earlier disqualified several nominees after finding that they did not meet the membership requirements.
It confirmed that presidential candidate Ali Saleh was removed from the race because he was no longer practising journalism as his main profession. He also failed to renew his membership or pay subscription fees for many years. This leaves Isa Al Shaiji as the sole candidate for post of president.
Two board candidates, Maryam Anwar Ahmed and Marwa Khamees Al Akrawi, were also disqualified for not meeting the eligibility criteria.
