A collective of Bahraini women has turned their baking hobbies into thriving businesses after receiving support from the Kaaf Humanitarian non-profit organisation (NGO).
In a UN news report, Ms. Fareed and others discussed how they benefited from the NGO and worked to turn their hobby into a source of income.
"I named my company Brown Sugar because I am brown... and because I love sugar," joked Ms. Fareed. "At first, I baked biscuits just for my family. They loved the taste, and soon, my friends started encouraging me to sell them. That’s when I realised I could turn this into something bigger.”
Another beneficiary from the NGO, Ms. Musaifer, spoke about how the support enabled her to produce high-quality recipes.
“Their financial support has enabled me to procure high-quality spices,” she said.
Both women used social media to promote their businesses, with the NGO's help to adapt to the platforms.
