AN elderly man has been arrested for allegedly exploiting, luring and harassing a number of children, the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security said yesterday.
The 67-year-old, whose nationality was not revealed, reportedly waited for children who were out and about without supervision, called out to them and offered them money.
After receiving information on the individual, a special team from the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit launched an investigation, and gathered intelligence and evidence, and identified the suspect.
Necessary legal measures are being taken to refer him to the Public Prosecution.
The Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit emphasised the importance of family awareness and continuous parental monitoring of children, urging parents to build trust with children and encourage them to report any attempts of harassment or exploitation.
They urged members of the community to report suspicious individuals that may threaten the well-being of children by calling 33523300, via email at cpcu@interior.gov.bh, the 992 hotline, the MyGov application, or in person.
