A BOY, aged 17, has been arrested for allegedly exploiting a 15-year-old girl on social media by impersonating a government official tasked with protecting children.
The Family and Child Prosecution said that the suspect convinced the victim to send him a ‘lewd video’ after claiming that he was a female agent of the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit.
Prosecutors received a report about the matter, and were able to identify the person behind the social media account following an investigation.
He has been remanded into custody, and authorities have ordered that the contents of his mobile phone be searched, to ‘determine the scope of his criminal activities’.
The Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit emphasised the importance of family awareness and continuous parental monitoring of children, urging parents to build trust with children and encourage them to report any attempts at harassment or exploitation.
Members of the community are urged to report suspicious individuals that may threaten the well-being of children by calling 33523300, via email at cpcu@interior.gov.bh, the 992 hotline, the MyGov application, or in person.
