A delegation from the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) took part in the 49th General Assembly meeting of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organisation (ARCO) in Riyadh.
Presidents and representatives of national societies met to discuss ways to strengthen humanitarian and voluntary work across the Arab region and unify efforts in addressing common humanitarian challenges.
The assembly concluded with the ‘Riyadh Humanitarian Declaration’ which emphasised the importance of keeping humanitarian work neutral and free from politicisation.
It also stressed the importance to ensure a safe and impartial environment that allowed the National Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies to perform their roles without obstruction and the necessity of supporting their efforts in capacity building and enhancing their overall preparedness.
“The declaration also stressed the need to uphold and advance international humanitarian law, to integrate its provisions into national legislation, and to ensure the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers,” said BRCS secretary general Mubarak Al Hadi, who headed the delegation.
Committee affairs assistant secretary general Adel Al Jar praised Saudi Arabia for its leadership in humanitarian causes and for hosting the event, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of ARCO, and stressed that maintaining such momentum reinforced solidarity and fostered greater human integration across the Arab region.
