Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov yesterday underscored the urgent need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
They exchanged views on regional and international developments, particularly ongoing Arab and international efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip, when they met on the sidelines of the Eighth Joint Ministerial Meeting between the GCC and Russia.
The ministers also called for the release of hostages and detainees, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, and the importance of supporting efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
They discussed a number of political issues of mutual concern, including the situation in Ukraine and regional disputes, and their implications for regional and international peace and security.
They reviewed the longstanding relations between Bahrain and Russia and their steady progress across various domains under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and President Vladimir Putin.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral co-operation in the economic, commercial, investment and development sectors, within the framework of existing agreements and the work of the Joint Governmental Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Co-operation between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed Bahrain’s non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, and means to enhance co-operation, co-ordination, and the exchange of expertise on international issues under consideration by the council.
The meeting was attended by Bahrain’s Ambassador to Russia Ahmed Al Saati, Foreign Ministry Co-ordination and Follow-up Sector chief Saeed Abdulkhaliq, and the accompanying delegation.
