The Nightingale of South India last night enchanted audiences during a special concert at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam’s (BKS) Diamond Jubilee Hall in Segaya.
K S Chithra, who has become a mainstay in the kingdom’s expatriate cultural scene, performed a set list packed with favourites and a few special surprises in her mother tongue of Malayalam, with a few medleys of Hindi and fusion music.
Ms Chithra was joined by her nephew Aditya Menon, a 16-year-old Grade 11 student at New Indian School Bahrain, on the keyboard onstage for one of her songs, supported by her 14-person orchestra.
Popular singers Madhu Balakrishnan, Nishad and Anamika also performed.
Ms Chitra’s concert was held as part of BKS’ 44-day celebration of the Keralite festival of Onam, which honours the legendary King Mahabali, whose reign symbolised prosperity, equality and unity.
