GCC leaders yesterday called for an urgent meeting of the Joint Defence Council and Higher Military Committee to assess the defensive posture of the member states and sources of threat in light of the Israeli aggression against Qatar.
They also directed the Unified Military Command to take the necessary executive measures to activate joint defence mechanisms and GCC deterrence capabilities.
The final communiqué of the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit affirmed that the Israeli strike in Doha “undermines the prospects of achieving peace and peaceful coexistence in the region and threatens all that has been accomplished on the path of establishing normal relations with Israel, including existing and future agreements.”
