Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa received Dr David Wyrick, head of the delegation from the University of North Carolina, USA, and US-based Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E).
Under-Secretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) and chairman of the Maan (Together) Committee for Combating Violence and Addiction Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa was present.
Gen Shaikh Rashid commended the co-operation with the UNCG and D.A.R.E. in developing the Maan programme, one of the kingdom’s most important community-security initiatives, given its role in protecting youth from the risks of violence and addiction and in promoting positive behavioural patterns. He underlined the importance of continuing this research partnership for its positive impact on the programme’s methodology and on the development of its work mechanisms.
The Interior Minister received a copy of the scientific research submitted to the International Journal of Public Health, one of the outcomes of this co-operation, expressing appreciation for such research initiatives.
The meeting also reviewed the results of the third phase of the joint study between the university team and the Maan Regional Centre for Research and Training on the curriculum of peaceful coexistence and countering extremism, which showed notable positive indicators.
He emphasised that these achievements represent an essential step towards promoting a culture of moderation in educational and community environments, emphasising the need to continue the study and expand its scope to achieve further positive results.
Dr Wyrick thanked Gen Shaikh Rashid for supporting the co-operation between the university team and the Maan Regional Centre in preparing academic studies and research.
He commended the Maan programme as a global model in security awareness and community partnership.
