The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry has announced a new regulation allowing Bahraini taxi drivers to permit first-degree relatives to work as assistant drivers in the same vehicle.
Each taxi can now have up to three authorised drivers. Land Transport and Postal Affairs Under-Secretary Fatima Al Dhaen said the measure aims to ensure continuous taxi service, provide greater flexibility for citizens, and expand family participation in the sector.
The regulation supports service sustainability, improves availability to meet rising demand, and enhances the overall experience for residents and visitors.
The ministry emphasised that operational standards and procedures will ensure service quality and sector organisation. Licensed drivers are encouraged to review the full requirements on the ministry’s website: www.mtt.gov.bh.
