Supreme Council for Women (SCW) secretary general Lulwa Al Awadhi led an event organised by Bahrain, in co-operation with UN Women, to promote the third edition of HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment.
The event was held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly at UN Women headquarters in New York, marking the launch of applications for participation.
The award is a leading initiative launched by Bahrain and is directed at government ministries, official institutions, private sector entities, civil society organisations, and individuals worldwide, to encourage efforts aimed at empowering women.
Ms Al Awadhi highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to adopting rigorous and scientifically grounded methodologies for the award, in line with international standards, through the selection of a jury panel comprised of experts with recognised contributions at the regional and global levels in the field of women’s empowerment. She praised the jury members for their dedication to overseeing the award process.
The event featured a detailed presentation on the award’s objectives, criteria, and mechanisms for participation, followed by a promotional film showcasing its journey since its inception in 2017.
Acting regional director for the Arab states at UN Women Dr Moez Doraid also addressed the event. He praised the solid partnership between UN Women and the SCW in supporting and empowering women, commending the leading role of the award in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and its tangible positive impact on previous winners from around the world.
