The Public Prosecution yesterday questioned the woman who was arrested for allegedly making false claims against a civil servant in a video posted on social media.
The GDN reported yesterday that the accused had claimed that a government official had exploited his position to sexually harass female job applicants.
She claimed that one of the victims had reached out to her complaining about “abuse of power”.
“In the beginning, the video’s author claimed that this story was conveyed to her by an anonymous girl,” the prosecution recounted its first interview with the suspect, in a statement.
“But she later contradicted herself, and said that there was a woman currently employed at a public organisation who had gone through similar harassment.
“The employee was summoned by the prosecution, and she denied what the video author had said, explaining that the incident she spoke about had never happened.
“She added that the video’s author was motivated by her desire for vengeance.”
The prosecution accused the woman of making up the story to shake citizens’ trust in government organisations.
When confronted with the evidence, she reportedly confessed to fabricating a narrative ‘from her imagination’.
The woman was charged with disseminating false news and misusing social media platforms.
