A government minister has emphasised the need for stronger international co-operation to support young people.
Youth Affairs Minister Rawan Tawfiqi affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to empowering youth and ensuring their role as central partners in development at both the national and global levels when she took part in a high-level meeting at the United Nations in New York, marking the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY).
She noted that this priority reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad and the government’s agenda, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which has made youth empowerment a cornerstone of Bahrain’s national strategy.
The event was held during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, under the theme ‘World Programme of Action for Youth at 30: Accelerating Global Progress Through Intergenerational Collaboration’.
Ms Tawfiqi highlighted Bahrain’s youth-focused policies, which prioritise participation, skills development, civic engagement and innovation.
Among the country’s leading initiatives, she pointed to The King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award to Achieve the SDGs, and the ‘Hope’ Network launched in 2024 by His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The minister also added that ‘Hope’ now brings together 42 youth organisations, government agencies and international partners to exchange best practices, support collaborative projects and provide a dynamic platform for dialogue and innovation led by young people themselves.
