Bahraini camels performed remarkably well on the first day of the Saudi Camel Federation Cup, which kicked off on Wednesday at the Hail racecourse in Saudi Arabia.
Camels owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa stole the spotlight with three outstanding achievements at the start of the championship.
The first victory came through the camel ‘Sarh’ which won the second round in the Haqaiq Qadan (young male camels) category Open Cup, while the camel ‘Al Gharbi’ finished second.
‘Al Araf’, another one of Shaikh Nasser’s camels, also finished sixth in the same category.
In a third achievement, the female camel ‘Azoum’ won the fifth round of the Al Haqaiq Bakkar (young female camels) category Open Cup.

The outstanding performances showcased the advanced status of Bahraini camels in the Gulf’s largest race of its kind and reflected the significant efforts of Shaikh Nasser to support the traditional Arab sport and elevate it to the highest levels of regional and international competition.
With the participation of more than 2,940 camels from eight countries including Qatar, Oman and the UAE, and a prize pool exceeding 10 million Saudi riyals, the fifth edition of the competition hosted in Hail for the first time extends the camel racing season in Saudi Arabia.
Continuing until February 2026, the season opened in June with Al Mafarid race, followed by the Taif Season, the Saudi Crown Prince Camel Festival and the 95th Saudi National Day race.
The GDN earlier reported on the remarkable success of Bahraini camels at the Crown Prince Camel Festival, winning championships in the Luqaya (young female camel) category competitions.
