BAHRAIN’S oldest society dedicated to migrant rights announced its newly-elected board yesterday.
The Migrant Workers Protection Society (MWPS) announced its new leadership team, and unanimously re-elected veteran businesswoman and philanthropist Mona Yousuf Khalil Almoayyed as chairperson for the new term.
The election took place during the first meeting of the newly-formed 12-member board, which also confirmed other key executive committee members including Evone Vijayavani Bhaskaran (vice-chairperson), Madhavan Kallath (general secretary), Kavithasree Suvarna (treasurer), Mohamed Gayazullah Amanullah (assistant general secretary) and Daniel Menezes Ambrosio (assistant treasurer).
In addition, Rhea Abraham, Karthikeyan Arumugam, Asong George, Zuhair Ahmed Katib, Ayuk Arrey Ndumne and Raji Unnikrishnan make up the 12-member board.
“We are energised and united in our purpose,” said Ms Almoayyed on the occasion.
“This diverse and dedicated team of office-bearers, board members and committee leads is poised to significantly expand our efforts in protecting the rights and welfare of migrant workers in Bahrain.”
To strengthen its operations, the board also established five specialised committees, each focusing on a core area of MWPS’ mission.
Committee leads include Mr Ndumne (action), Ms Suvarna (finance), Mr Amanullah (fund-raising), Mr Katib (labour safety and welfare), and Ms Unnikrishnan (media and publicity).
The MWPS is a non-profit organisation that advocates for the rights and welfare of migrant workers of all nationalities in Bahrain through outreach, advocacy and support services.
