BAHRAIN is hosting a key forum to reflect on, and renew, the foundational standards of arbitration.
The three-day inaugural ‘Hawar Circle’ has been organised by the Council for International Dispute Resolution on Hawar Islands, bringing together 14 leading arbitration figures representing jurisdictions including London, Singapore, Paris, Nigeria, India and Hong Kong.
The experts are expected to revisit and develop core principles for the field, drawing from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) London Centenary Principles.
The ‘Hawar Circle’, which concludes today, is examining practical challenges, sharing comparative experiences, and collaborating to define and refine principles that support robust and effective dispute resolution.
The developed ‘Bahrain Principles’ will enter a six-month global stakeholder review period.
The ‘Hawar Circle’ is inspired by landmark historical gatherings that shaped the trajectory of international arbitration, notably the Le Cercle de Chambésy meeting in Geneva in 1961, which led to the formation of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).
In pursuit of a similar transformative influence, the ‘Hawar Circle’ is envisioned as the “new way forward for the arbitration world – bringing together thought leaders to drive innovation, set global standards, and foster enduring partnerships.
This initiative underscores the commitment of Bahrain to promoting excellence, fostering collaboration, and establishing future standards in the arbitration community.
