The agreement to end the Gaza war opens new horizons for the people of the region to live in security and stability, His Majesty King Hamad has said.
He described it a day of peace and stressed that peace is the strategic choice and the best path to achieving regional prosperity.
His Majesty thanked President Donald Trump for his tireless efforts in support of the peace process in the Middle East, and his direct sponsorship of this historic agreement.
The King also underlined the importance of the all parties’ commitment to the agreement and their responsibility to implement it.
His Majesty noted the significant efforts made by the mediators and their vital role in establishing common ground that led to this historic achievement, which will consolidate the culture of dialogue and enhance international co-operation.
Israelis and Palestinians alike rejoiced after the deal was announced, the biggest step yet to end the war in which more than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed, and return the last hostages seized by Hamas in the deadly attacks that started it.
Hamas’ exiled Gaza chief Khalil Al Hayya said he had received guarantees from the United States and other mediators that the war was over.
Israel’s government, meanwhile, was due to ratify the agreement, which would allow the ceasefire to take effect.
Under the deal, fighting will cease, Israel will partially withdraw from Gaza and Hamas will free all remaining hostages in exchange for hundreds of prisoners held by Israel.
Fleets of trucks carrying food and medical aid would be allowed to surge into Gaza.
Trump, who plans to leave for the Middle East on Sunday, said the Gaza hostages should be released on Monday or Tuesday and that he hopes to attend a signing ceremony in Egypt and address the Israeli Knesset.
