VETERAN Shura Council member Jamal Fakhro has been elected unopposed as first vice-chairman of the Shura Council for a record 20th consecutive time.
Mr Fakhro has now held the post since Ali Saleh Al Saleh was appointed Shura Council chairman by His Majesty King Hamad during the 2006-2007 legislative term.
Dr Jihad Al Fadhel was elected unopposed as the upper chamber’s second vice-chairwoman for the fourth consecutive year.
The elections were held yesterday during the upper chamber’s first meeting after the King opened the National Assembly’s fourth session of the sixth legislative term.
Mr Al Saleh later chaired the general-secretariat meeting with both vice-chairpersons to assess committees’ nominations for Sunday’s regular weekly session.
