Bahraini entrepreneur, author and culinary expert Afnan Rashid Al Zayani also showcased Bahrain’s rich culinary heritage at Expo 2025 Osaka with her book A Taste of the Arabian Gulf.
Featured at the Bahrain Pavilion, the book represents one of the kingdom’s most enduring cultural contributions, preserving and promoting traditional Gulf cuisine for international audiences.
First published in 1988, A Taste of the Arabian Gulf was the first dedicated Arabian Gulf cookbook written in English.
It offers readers a comprehensive guide to traditional Gulf dishes, each introduced with notes on cultural context and the occasions on which they are traditionally served.
The book also featured creative recipes that bridged regional and global influences.
The fourth and most recent edition, released last year, is a continuation of Ms Al Zayani’s pioneering effort to document and share the flavours of the region while blending authenticity with innovation.
It aligns with Expo 2025’s theme, Designing Future Society for Our Lives, by highlighting the role of culture and creativity within the global Orange Economy, which links heritage with sustainable development and mutual understanding.
