National Assembly and Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam has reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to deepening parliamentary co-operation among GCC member states at a high level meeting in Geneva.
He emphasised the importance of reinforcing the long-standing fraternal and historical ties between the legislative bodies of the GCC countries, highlighting the significant progress achieved through collective Gulf efforts under the guidance and support of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC states.
His remarks came during a joint co-ordination meeting held in Switzerland on the sidelines of the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The meeting brought together Mr Al Musallam, Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Shaikh, Speaker of the Saudi Arabian Shura Council, and Dr Ali Al Nuaimi, member of the Federal National Council of the UAE.
During the meeting, Mr Al Musallam praised the joint efforts and fruitful co-operation among Gulf parliaments and legislative councils, especially in unifying positions and perspectives at regional and international parliamentary forums.
He noted that such collaboration reflects the strength and depth of GCC relations and presents a unique model of co-ordination that supports the region’s development and success.
The co-ordination meeting also reviewed key topics on the agenda of the 151st IPU General Assembly. This includes the general debate theme: “Adherence to humanitarian standards and supporting humanitarian action in times of crisis”, in addition to discussing proposals submitted for inclusion as emergency items during the assembly.
Participants also reviewed vacancies in the standing committees of the IPU and stressed the importance of supporting candidates from GCC and Arab parliaments interested in joining these international parliamentary committees.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of GCC parliaments to active engagement within the IPU and continued alignment on issues of regional and international importance.
