The Royal Medical Services (RMS) – King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) held a meeting yesterday to discuss a potential memorandum of understanding with the Boston Children’s Hospital in the United States to strengthen medical co-operation and share expertise in diagnosing and treating complex and rare conditions.
RMS Commander and Supreme Committee for Treatment Abroad chairman Brigadier Dr Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, KHUH Commander Colonel Dr Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Bahrain Oncology Centre chief executive officer Dr Edward Ronald attended.
The proposed collaboration aims to establish an advanced medical partnership in diagnosing and treating rare paediatric diseases.
This would include remote medical consultations using video communication technologies, giving doctors in Bahrain access to the expertise of leading consultants at Boston Children’s Hospital.
The partnership would also involve visits by specialised medical teams from Boston to Bahrain to assess complex cases directly, as well as co-ordination of overseas treatment for patients who require advanced care abroad.
This initiative is part of the RMS’ strategy to enhance the healthcare system, attract international expertise and expand global co-operation to improve diagnosis and treatment for patients in the kingdom.
