A search has been launched for a person who fell overboard after a boat engaged in illegal shrimping collided with a Coastguard patrol boat, the Interior Ministry has announced.
It said that the Coastguard patrols were carrying out security duties in the Fasht Al Adham area when a boat was detected engaging in shrimp fishing using prohibited equipment.
When personnel attempted to intercept the vessel, its crew tried to flee and collided with the patrol boat, causing one person to fall overboard and go missing at sea.
The Coastguard stated that search operations for the missing individual began immediately in co-operation with the Police Aviation unit and are still ongoing.
