Bahrain is committed to developing joint Arab policies that promote balanced and sustainable urban growth.
Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi also affirmed the kingdom’s commitment to enhancing regional co-operation in housing and urban planning as she took part in the 90th executive bureau meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction.
The meeting was held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo yesterday. Bahrain’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Fouzia Zainal attended the meeting.
The minister praised Arab countries’ progress in improving housing services and acknowledged the Arab League’s efforts in promoting these achievements internationally.
Ms Al Romaihi highlighted Bahrain’s success in providing social housing, guided by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to ensure adequate housing and a decent life for citizens.
She noted that the ministry continues to expand co-operation with the private sector and adopt innovative solutions to accelerate housing projects.
These partnerships have helped provide thousands of housing services for Bahraini families through both traditional developments and financing schemes, including the Government Land Development Rights Programme, the minister added.
The meeting discussed means to strengthen Arab co-operation in housing and construction, improve social housing services and exchange successful experiences.
It also reviewed Bahrain’s hosting of the council’s official website, progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 for sustainable cities and ongoing co-operation with UN-Habitat.
The council congratulated the UAE on its election to chair the UN-Habitat General Assembly for the 2026-2029 term and discussed updates on the Arab Housing and Urban Development Strategy, the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the Arab Ministers’ Award for Architectural Excellence.
