A middle-aged man has been arrested for publishing content online that insulted the search and rescue efforts for a missing seafarer and allegedly incited public opinion against the authorities.
The Interior Ministry announced that the Cybercrime Department of the General Department for Combating Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security summoned and arrested a 48-year-old Bahraini after he was monitored posting content on a social media platform that cast doubt on the search and rescue efforts related to the incident of a missing citizen, which could incite public opinion, influence the course of the investigation, and harm official authorities.
The administration explained that what was circulated constitutes a violation of the provisions of Article (245) of the Penal Code, given that it included the publication of incorrect information and an attempt to influence public opinion, stressing that the prescribed legal measures had been taken in preparation for referring the case to the Public Prosecution.
The General Administration emphasised the importance of adhering to the laws and regulations governing the use of social media, and ensuring accuracy and responsibility in publishing.
It called for obtaining information from official sources and refraining from circulating rumours or publishing inaccurate news that could mislead public opinion or influence the course of justice.
