The Consumer Protection Directorate at the Industry and Commerce Ministry has warned against fraudulent links and fake websites impersonating the directorate and claiming to receive consumer complaints online.
The directorate recently received several reports regarding fake links appearing in Google search results. These links redirect users to pages requesting their personal and banking information, followed by fraudulent contact attempts via WhatsApp using false identities.
The Consumer Protection Directorate confirmed that such practices are scams aimed at stealing the consumers’ data and money. It urged all consumers to ignore such messages and links received through WhatsApp and to refrain from sharing any banking details or transaction codes, stressing that the Consumer Protection team does not communicate with consumers via WhatsApp.
To contact the Consumer Protection Directorate or submit an official complaint, consumers are advised to use only the approved communication channels.
The Consumer Protection Centre is also open for visits.
