Investigations into an incident involving a social media user who published video clips containing false and offensive claims against a government entity have concluded, the Public Prosecution has confirmed.
The woman behind the account allegedly cast doubt on the integrity of the agency’s employees and its operations and also spread false information about one of its staff members.
She reportedly claimed that he abused his position and engaged in immoral behaviour.
Authorities launched an investigation into the posts and interviewed the woman who admitted to recording and publishing the videos.
She also acknowledged that the claims and allegations she made were ‘fabricated and baseless’, according to the Public Prosecution, which also heard witness testimonies confirming that position.
The accused has been detained and referred to court where she will face charges relating to spreading false news, publicly insulting a government body, and using a telecommunications network to transmit misleading messages.
