PARLIAMENT’S services committee chairman Mamdooh Al Saleh has been elected deputy speaker of the Arab Parliament during its plenary session for the fourth legislative term, held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
Yesterday’s election reflects Bahrain’s active role in Arab and international parliamentary forums, supported by the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, he said.
Mr Al Saleh said the achievement demonstrates the continued backing of Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam and other MPs for Bahrain’s parliamentary diplomacy, which continues to expand its regional and international presence.
He said the new position will allow him to contribute to unified Arab parliamentary efforts, particularly on key regional issues such as the Palestinian cause, and to enhance dialogue with other parliaments.
The deputy speaker’s position is one of the Arab Parliament’s senior leadership roles, involving the management of sessions, supervision of committees and representation in international meetings.
The Arab Parliament includes representatives from 22 Arab legislative bodies under the umbrella of the Arab League and plays a key role in promoting Arab legislative co-operation and joint parliamentary action.
Mr Al Musallam congratulated Mr Al Saleh on his election and wished him success.
Bahrain MP and member of the Arab Parliament Hisham Ahmed Al Asheeri commended the Speaker’s support for Bahrain’s parliamentary delegations.
He said Al Saleh’s election reinforces Bahrain’s role in Arab institutions and reflects its firm national and Arab positions.
