Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa received UAE Interior Ministry Inspector General and International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) president Major General Dr Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi.
Gen Shaikh Rashid welcomed Maj Gen Dr Al Raisi and his delegation on the sidelines of their participation in the first Middle East International Border Management and Technology Conference.
He underlined the long-standing relations between Bahrain and the UAE and the commitment to enhance co-operation, co-ordination and exchange of expertise in all areas of security work.
The Interior Minister received the Interpol Medal of the Highest Order from Maj Gen Dr Al Raisi, in recognition of outstanding contributions to enhancing international co-operation in promoting global security and peace. The medal is awarded to heads of state, prime ministers and interior ministers.
The Interior Minister expressed pride in receiving this honour, which he described as a recognition of the ministry’s role in supporting efforts to advance security and stability, and in promoting the principles of co-operation and integration among nations to achieve regional security and global peace.
He commended the co-operation between the ministry and Interpol and the successful steps taken in combating organised crime and addressing security challenges, and expressed appreciation for Interpol’s exceptional and professional efforts in supporting international law enforcement agencies.
The Interior Minister separately met International Border Management and Technologies Association (IBMATA) senior adviser Stuart Skeates and IBMATA chief executive officer Sharon Ayley.
He also received UK Border Force director general Phil Douglas.
Gen Shaikh Rashid also received Oman director general of customs Brigadier Saeed Al Ghaithi and GCC Customs Union Authority executive director Dr Suleiman Al Ghafri.
