Bahrain is ringing in the festive season with a major boost for its retail sector as the country looks forward to celebrating National Day and welcoming in the New Year.
The move looks set to encourage the sound of jingle tills as shoppers swoop on special sales, now being given an extended countdown.
The Industry and Commerce Ministry has unveiled the National Incentive Initiative to energise commercial activity and drive economic growth.
Spearheaded by the Consumer Protection Directorate, it will enable commercial shop owners to expand their promotional activities by exempting them from normal campaign fees.
Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro said the initiative will enable retailers to extend sales and discounts throughout December.
He affirmed that this strategic step embodies the ministry’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), enhancing their participation in national celebrations and energising local markets.
He stressed that the move would encourage consumers to shop from local stores, thereby contributing to stimulating the economic cycle and raising domestic spending rates.
Mr Fakhro also highlighted the ministry’s commitment to maintaining market integrity.
The Consumer Protection Directorate will continue to regulate promotional campaigns and ensure commercial establishments adhere to all applicable regulations, which is vital for strengthening confidence in the local market and preserving the rights of both consumers and traders.
He added that the national initiative represents a key facet of the partnership between the government and the private sector, supporting economic development and reinforcing Bahrain’s position as a thriving and diversified commercial hub.
Shop owners are invited to capitalise on these facilitations by co-ordinating directly with the Consumer Protection Directorate. Applications for participation can be submitted via email to promotion_enquiries@moic.gov.bh.
