Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro has highlighted the spirit of shared national work.
This came as he launched the National Innovation Strategy 2025-2035 during Global Entrepreneurship Week at the American University of Bahrain (AUBH).
The minister noted the strategy was developed through a comprehensive effort involving key entities such as the Finance and National Economy Ministry, the Sustainable Development Ministry, the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), the University of Bahrain, and the Information and eGovernment Authority.
This cross-sectoral collaboration aims to strengthen integration between the public, private, and academic sectors.

Assistant under-secretary for industrial development Dr Khaled Al Alawi confirmed that the strategy aims to establish an integrated innovation ecosystem by leveraging the country’s flexible legislative environment and qualified national talent.
Dr Al Alawi highlighted Bahrain’s current global achievements, noting the kingdom’s Global Innovation Index (GII) ranking of 62nd (a 10-rank advance from 2024), with a 1st global ranking in the ICT sub-index and 15th in Infrastructure.
The entire framework rests on four main pillars: ‘R&D’; ‘Education and Talent Building’; ‘Enhancing the Protection of Intellectual Property (IP)’; and ‘Inclusive Innovation and Data’.
Key initiatives under the IP pillar include amending the patent law and launching a fast-track programme to accelerate the technical examination of patents.
“Co-operation between the public, private and academic sectors is essential to achieve the strategic objectives,” Dr Al Alawi added.
