Applied Science University (ASU) Board of Trustees chairman Professor Waheeb Al Khaja recently welcomed the newly-elected 19th Student Council during an official meeting held at the university’s campus.
The meeting was also attended by president Professor Hatem Masri and senior members of the university management.
The meeting underscored the university’s continued commitment to strengthening communication with students and empowering their representatives to play an active role in shaping academic life and enhancing student participation.
Professor Al Khaja praised the council’s ‘vital contribution’ as a key partner in developing the university environment, noting its role in conveying student perspectives and improving services that support the learning experience.
“The university’s success rests on the engagement of its students and we are proud of the ideas, responsibility and genuine ambition our students demonstrate in advancing the university and its standing,” he said.
He further commended the efforts of the council members and urged them to continue working as a team to introduce initiatives that reinforce university identity and strengthen students’ sense of belonging.
Professor Masri stressed that the meeting reflects ASU’s approach of maintaining open channels with students, whom he described as ‘the cornerstone’ of the educational process and a key driver of development.
“ASU believes that building future leaders begins with giving students the opportunity to participate and influence, where the Student Council is a model of this role, and we remain committed to supporting it as part of our efforts to enhance campus life and community engagement,” he said.
He added that the ASU will continue to support student-led projects and develop their leadership skills in line with the university’s vision of preparing graduates capable of competing in the labour market and contributing to national development.
Council members expressed their appreciation to the university leadership, affirming their commitment to serving their fellow students responsibly and representing them effectively.
The meeting serves as a starting point for a renewed phase of student-led initiatives during the current academic year.
