Champions and organisers of the Asian Youth Games have received royal accolades for bringing glory to Bahrain.
The high praise came during an audience with His Majesty King Hamad at Sakhir Palace yesterday.
Bahrain’s athletes won 13 medals: five gold, five silver and three bronze at the Games, which brought 8,000 participants from 45 countries and was organised within just 10 months.
Its spectacular success presented Bahrain as an example of efficient and high-quality events host.
Present at the reception were senior Royal Family members, top officials, citizens, sports achievers and members of the Supreme Organising Committee and Executive Committee of the Games, which were held under His Majesty’s patronage.
His Majesty noted that national efforts were aligned from the preparation stage through to the conclusion of the Games, enabling Bahrain to present the event in a manner that reflected its reputation in its organisational capacity.
He highlighted the professionalism, discipline and co-operation demonstrated by all working teams, which contributed to the successful management of the continental event held last month.
His Majesty congratulated the medal-winners and commended their sportsmanship and professionalism.
He also wished success to Bahraini athletes competing in the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.
His Majesty expressed appreciation to Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his continued efforts for sports development.
These efforts have recently culminated in Bahrain winning the honour of hosting the 2027 Arab Games, an achievement that stands as a new source of national pride and a clear affirmation of the kingdom’s capabilities, he said.
His Majesty instructed that preparations begin early to ensure the event befits Bahrain’s standing and further strengthens its position as a leading sports destination.
Shaikh Khalid emphasised that His Majesty’s support remains the driving force behind national sports achievements.
He expressed appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his continued support for sports development and to His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his efforts to empower Bahraini youth.
