THE government has been urged to provide monthly financial incentives to people with disabilities enrolled in training and rehabilitation programmes at accredited centres and institutes across Bahrain.
The urgent proposal, by five MPs led by Hisham Al Awadhi, is scheduled for discussion during today’s Parliament session.
The initiative aims to support individuals with disabilities throughout the rehabilitation process until they obtain accredited certificates that enable entry into the labour market.
“This proposal addresses a critical need for persons with disabilities who face financial challenges during lengthy training periods,” said Mr Al Awadhi.
“By providing a monthly allowance, we aim to empower trainees, encourage families to support participation, and ensure that rehabilitation programmes reach their full potential.”
The MPs highlighted that these programmes can extend for years, creating economic burdens for trainees and their families.
“By offering financial assistance, the initiative encourages trainees to complete programmes without dropping out due to financial pressure,” they added.
“Increased participation and continuity would also help rehabilitation centres attract more trainees and improve the quality of their services.”
Mr Al Awadhi emphasised that similar initiatives in other countries have yielded positive results, increasing both participation rates and self-reliance among persons with disabilities.
“We believe Bahrain can replicate these successes, ensuring that our rehabilitation programmes are inclusive, effective, and sustainable,” he added.
