A clean city is a collective dream for all of us in Bahrain. Yet, as we move around our neighbourhoods, it’s clear that we still face challenges in maintaining the beauty and hygiene of our surroundings.
One concern that has become increasingly visible is the limited availability of waste bins, especially the smaller ones that encourage people to dispose of rubbish properly.
Across residential areas, we often see large waste containers placed in front of homes and apartments. While these are essential for household waste, they can also pose risks. Strong winds can move them into the streets, creating hazards for pedestrians and motorists.
At the same time, the habit of properly disposing of waste seems to be fading among some individuals, with litter often thrown directly onto the road simply because a bin is not nearby.
This issue becomes even more noticeable in busy areas like shopping streets, food courts, and commercial complexes. These are locations where people gather in large numbers, yet small waste bins are surprisingly scarce. Without convenient access, even well-intentioned people may end up contributing to littering.
I believe that increasing the number of small waste bins across city streets – especially in high-traffic zones filled with shops and restaurants – can make a meaningful difference. When proper disposal becomes easy and habitual, we naturally create a cleaner and more pleasant environment for everyone.
Every day, we see hardworking municipal cleaning staff putting in great effort to collect litter from the streets. Their dedication is commendable, but we as residents must also support their work by practicing responsible disposal habits.
Enhancing waste-bin availability is a simple step, but it can greatly improve cleanliness, safety, and the overall image of our beautiful Bahrain. A cleaner city is not just a responsibility – it is a reflection of our respect for the community we live in.
