THREE people were rescued by firemen from a house blaze in Sanad yesterday caused by a fault on an electric scooter. “Initial details indicate that the fire was caused by thermal stress in a scooter,” read an Interior Ministry statement.
E-bikes and e-scooters are powered by lithium batteries, which store a significant amount of energy in a very small space and are much more powerful compared with other types of batteries. If that energy is released in an uncontrolled way, then danger may result. Overheating or overcharging can cause a fault in damaged battery cells which can cause the battery to catch fire or explode.
Safety experts urge owners never to charge one unattended or while sleeping.
