His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, yesterday inaugurated the Manama Municipality building following its renovation.
The inauguration took place in line with the implementation of the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad to preserve the historical and cultural identity of Bahrain’s buildings and cities, to launch a comprehensive plan to redevelop Manama Suq’s historical area, and safeguard its historical and cultural heritage.
The building was originally inaugurated in 1962 by the late HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
HRH Prince Salman highlighted the kingdom’s extensive experience in municipal work, spanning over a century, enhancing urban development and public services.
He outlined that the kingdom’s longstanding expertise has strengthened municipal work in line with the comprehensive development, led by His Majesty.
He emphasised that the Manama Municipality, established in 1919 during the reign of the late HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, was among the first municipalities in the region and has, throughout its history, become a firmly established institutional landmark, contributing to organising the affairs of the capital and keeping pace with its development.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister also reiterated that the renovation of the municipality building embodies the kingdom’s commitment to preserving institutional landmarks of historical value, ensuring they remain testament to Bahrain’s ongoing urban and developmental progress, while also enhancing the municipality’s readiness to continue fulfilling its role.
He underscored the importance of continuing to develop municipal work to further improve its services, affirming that keeping pace with sustainable urbanisation contributes to creating an efficient service environment.
He expressed his gratitude for the dedicated efforts and contributions of citizens across various sectors, affirming that they remain the cornerstone of the kingdom’s development.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister also extended his appreciation to the workforce of Municipal Affairs and wished them continued success.
He toured the Manama Municipality building, during which he was briefed on the building’s facilities and development, and viewed an exhibition documenting the history of the municipality, its institutional journey and its progress over the years.
Prime Minister’s Court Minister Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities president Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and several senior officials also attended the opening.
