Human capital served as a central pillar of Bapco Energies’ transformation in 2025.
The year reshaped the group’s operating structure, strengthened its leadership frameworks and advanced Bahrain’s energy sector through unified talent management, organisational transparency and strategic national workforce development.
A historic milestone for the kingdom’s energy industry was achieved with the appointment of Basema Al Mahroos as chief executive of Bapco Tazweed, making her the first Bahraini woman to lead a subsidiary within the sector.
Shortly after this Bapco Energies announced the appointment of Areije Al Shakar as chief executive of BeVentures, a subsidiary dedicated to building and investing in transformative energy ventures.
These leadership appointments reflect the group’s commitment to gender inclusion, national capability development, and a forward-looking approach to executive succession within the kingdom.
Unified policies creating a shared corporate language
The human resources function achieved a significant milestone by standardising fifteen group-wide policies across all subsidiaries.
This step marks a first in Bahrain’s oil and gas sector and creates a unified operating environment built on fairness, transparency and consistent governance.
The framework strengthens confidence among employees, simplifies administrative processes, and ensures alignment in performance.
Group-wide workshops reinforced belonging, collaboration, and organisational identity and reached more than 4,500 employees.
The largest workforce transition in the group’s history
As part of the centralisation strategy, Bapco Energies executed the largest mobility exercise undertaken within the group.
A total of 750 employees transitioned across different business units.
This ensured operational continuity, deepened functional integration, and enabled more strategic allocation of talent.
The initiative demonstrated the group’s ability to manage complex organizational change and reinforced its ambition to build a more unified and agile working environment.
Transparent organisational structures and standardised rewards
An important achievement in 2025 was the implementation of a unified Compensation and Benefits Framework across all subsidiaries.
This included the standardisation of job classifications, the alignment of promotion and grading criteria, and improved internal mobility pathways.
The new model fostered a culture of merit, promoted internal equity, and empowered employees with greater confidence in their career development opportunities.
It contributed to a clearer organisational structure and more efficient workforce planning across the Group.
A unified succession pipeline supporting Bahrainisation
Bapco Energies introduced its first groupwide succession and talent review model. The framework prioritises the development of Bahraini nationals and aligns with the Government Action Plan 2023 to 2026, which focuses on sustainable employment and national talent advancement.
By consolidating succession planning across all subsidiaries, the group established a transparent, strategic and merit-based approach to leadership continuity and capability development.
Building today’s leaders and preparing tomorrow’s talent
The group launched unique programmes aimed at building a more inclusive leadership pipeline and establishing a new phase for preparing future leaders, in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
The ‘Empowering Women of Today’ programme was introduced to qualify female leaders in middle management, targeting 60 employees over two cohorts within two months, with 10 sessions focused on leadership and strategic thinking.
Meanwhile, the ‘Empowering Talents of Tomorrow’ programme was designed to prepare young professionals in the energy sector, engaging 35 employees from all business units in five high-impact workshops covering innovation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence.
Mental wellbeing as a strategic workforce priority
Bapco Energies launched its first group-wide mental health support and wellbeing programme.
The initiative offers confidential psychological support through a dedicated hotline and is delivered in partnership with a leading regional mental health institution.
The programme reinforces psychological safety, encourages early intervention and positions well-being as an essential component of organisational performance and employee experience.
Celebrating organisational and HR excellence
The group’s efforts culminated in two distinguished recognitions at the 2025 Human Resources Summit for Best Workplace Design and Best Employee Onboarding Programme.
These awards build on achievements recorded in 2024, including honours for responsible business practices, best HR team in the energy sector, and excellence in technology-enabled learning.
This momentum confirms that Bapco Energies is setting new standards of excellence within the industry and is transforming both internally and externally.
Investing in people, leading with purpose
The achievements of 2025 reflect bold leadership, disciplined execution, and a belief that human capital is a strategic investment rather than a support function.
Bapco Energies continues to advance its ambition of becoming a global institutional model where innovative centralisation, organisational excellence, and human capital development work together.
Operational efficiency, national priorities, employee wellbeing and strategic workforce planning are integrated to create a stronger, more agile and more sustainable future for Bahrain’s energy sector.
