A new bridge linking the Capital and Muharraq governorates is set to ease traffic congestion and boost economic growth.
Works Ministry Under-Secretary Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa yesterday inspected the progress of work and described the project as one of the ministry’s key strategic initiatives that would enhance road connectivity between the two governorates.

“The project is part of our strategic plan to improve traffic flow and develop infrastructure linking Muharraq and the Capital Governorate,” Shaikh Mishal said.
“It will contribute to strengthening the foundations of economic development and attracting more investment to Bahrain.”
The project involves the construction of a two-lane flyover in each direction, designed to streamline vehicle movement between Manama and Muharraq.
The flyover will channel traffic from Manama via the Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Causeway directly to the Muharraq Ring Road through Road 105 in Busaiteen.
It will also facilitate smoother travel from Muharraq Ring Road towards downtown Muharraq.
In addition to easing pressure on major junctions, the new flyover is expected to facilitate smoother travel between several areas, including Manama, Muharraq, Busaiteen, Al Sayah, Diyar Al Muharraq and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Shaikh Mishal said the project would play a major role in reducing traffic bottlenecks at the intersection of the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Bridge and Al Ghous Avenue.
“The development forms part of a wider national effort to modernise Bahrain’s road network in line with urban expansion and population growth, particularly in fast-developing areas such as Muharraq and Diyar Al Muharraq,” he said.
Officials believe the improved connectivity will not only enhance daily commuting but also support commercial activity and real estate development, reinforcing Bahrain’s position as an attractive destination for business and investment.
Shaikh Mishal was accompanied by ministry officials and engineers during the visit.
