Parliament has unanimously endorsed an urgent proposal calling on the government to regularise the employment status of Bahrainis currently engaged on short-term contracts with a telecommunications provider, granting them permanent positions.
According to the proposal, which will be reviewed by the government, employees are engaged on six-month renewable contracts for extended periods, despite the sustained need for their roles.
It was presented by five MPs led by Strategic Thinking Bloc spokesman MP Khalid Bu Onk, who warned that the practice ‘undermines job stability and negatively affects productivity and employees’ living conditions’.
