A delegation from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain recently visited the University of Jordan’s Cell Therapy Centre (CTC) to strengthen research ties and explore collaborative opportunities in stem cell and regenerative medicine.
The delegation was headed by School of Postgraduate Studies and Research head Stephen Atkin, pathology professor Alexandra Butler and Stem Cell Unit manager Dr Manjula Nandakumar.
They were welcomed by CTC director and founder Abdalla Abbadi, assistant director Hanan Jaffar, associate researcher Nida Ababneh and liposome-mediated drug and gene-delivery specialist Dr Walhan Ashaer.
The RCSI delegation was given a tour of the centre’s laboratories and received an overview of the services, including specialised stem cell treatments, the use of laboratory-grown stem cells to study diseases, and studies related to cancer and regenerative medicine.
Discussions were held to explore several areas of collaboration, including the potential development of a clinical trial examining exosome therapy for diabetic complications and co-operation on future animal studies to support therapeutic innovation.
