Major infrastructure upgrades are in the pipeline for Ras Hayyan and Jid Ali.
Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj confirmed progress on sewage network enhancements and road improvement projects aimed at supporting urban growth and improving residents’ quality of life.
Responding to parliamentary questions by MPs Lulwa Al Rumaihi and financial and economic affairs committee vice-chairwoman MP Zainab Abdulamir, Mr Al Hawaj said the ministry is committed to strengthening infrastructure foundations to keep pace with development, urban expansion and investment activity across the kingdom.
In Ras Hayyan, sewage services will be delivered through two major projects covering Blocks 963, 957 and 958. Both schemes are currently in the design phase, with funding already allocated for consultancy work.
However, their implementation is directly linked to the completion of the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ras Abu Jarjur, a strategic project serving large parts of the Southern Governorate.
“This central plant is a key national project, as many areas – including Ras Hayyan – depend on it before sewage services can be connected,” the minister said. “All procedures will be completed to ensure readiness for implementation once the central station is operational.”
Alongside sewage works, the Roads Affairs Sector is preparing several road improvement schemes in Ras Hayyan, including upgrades to Roads 6345, 6328 and 5835 and surrounding streets. These projects are also in the design phase, with co-ordination underway with utility service providers to avoid clashes with existing networks.
In Jid Ali’s Block 721, Mr Al Hawaj revealed that 90 per cent of properties are already connected to the sewage network. A new project has been planned to extend services to the remaining 274 properties.
The project is expected to be tendered publicly in 2026, after which implementation timelines will be confirmed.
