The government has been urged to transform the Heritage Village into a year-round cultural and tourism destination.
A proposal calling for the comprehensive development of the village is scheduled for debate and a vote during Tuesday’s weekly session.
Submitted by Strategic Thinking Bloc member MP Dr Mariam Al Dhaen, the proposal calls for upgrading infrastructure – including climate control measures – to ensure the village remains fully operational throughout all seasons.
It also recommends expanding cultural, educational, and heritage-themed events, along with festivals that showcase Bahrain’s traditions and history.
Dr Al Dhaen emphasised that the initiative goes beyond mere preservation.
“We are seeking to strike a balance between protecting Bahrain’s rich heritage and unlocking its economic and cultural potential through sustainable investment,” she said. “The Heritage Village can become a vibrant platform for education, tourism, and creative industries, while creating new opportunities for the private sector.”
The proposal further encourages public-private partnerships, offering investment opportunities to enhance services and facilities within the village. It also recommends organising regular school visits featuring interactive and immersive experiences to introduce younger generations to Bahrain’s history.
The Information Ministry confirmed that steps are already underway to develop the village by hosting cultural events, attracting local and international production companies for filming, and extending operational periods through private sector collaboration.
The services committee has recommended approval of the proposal.
