Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak conducted a field visit to the Bahraini Farmers Market at Budaiya Botanical Garden.
He was accompanied by Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj, Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi, National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) secretary general Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, representatives of stc Bahrain and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), Parliament members, Northern Governor Hassan Al Madani, Northern Municipal Council chairman Dr Saiyed Shubbar Al Wedai and several officials.
The minister emphasised that the Farmers Market represents a distinguished national platform reflecting Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening the presence of Bahraini farmers within the food security system, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This approach supports the sustainability of the agricultural sector as a contributor to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Government Programme.
The minister highlighted the close follow up and continued support extended to the Farmers Market by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and Supreme Council for Women president and NIAD advisory council president, which has contributed to consolidating the market’s position as a vital platform for supporting local produce.
The minister underlined the ministry’s keenness, in co-operation with relevant partners, to continue implementing qualitative initiatives that enhance the agricultural sector and raise its competitiveness, reinforcing its role in supporting the food security system in Bahrain. The minister commended the support provided to the market by NIAD and supporting companies.
The minister explained that community partnership with stc Bahrain and GPIC represents a successful model of integration between the public and private sectors in implementing national initiatives, given its direct impact on supporting farmers and encouraging the sustainability of agricultural production.
He also commended the role of official bodies and private sector institutions in ensuring the success of the Farmers Market activities.
The fifth week of the Farmers Market recorded strong attendance from citizens, residents, and visitors from within and outside Bahrain, featuring a wide variety of Bahraini agricultural products, alongside food products and agro-industrial goods.
The market brings together Bahraini farmers representing various types of agricultural production, specialised agricultural companies, plant nurseries, small enterprises and productive families, as well as date outlets and apiaries.
It also includes restaurants and cafes, in addition to an integrated programme of accompanying activities, including traditional performances by the Dar Al Budaiya Band, agricultural and artistic training workshops, and activities targeting various segments of society.
