Bahrain International Airport (BIA) continues to fly high as it has been awarded the global 5-Star rating for the fifth consecutive year by Skytrax, the international air transport rating organisation.
This marks a major milestone for the multi-million dinar terminal, and further reinforces BIA’s standing as a consistently high-performing airport.
Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of BIA, highlighted that this recognition reflects the airport’s ‘consistent standards and continued focus on delivering exceptional services and facilities’.
“Being rated 5-Star for the fifth year in a row is a moment of genuine pride for everyone at BIA,” said BAC acting chief executive officer and Airport Operations chief Ahmed Janahi.
“It reflects the dedication of our people, whose work each day upholds a world-class standard of service, and the co-operation of the broader airport community, including airlines, partners, service providers, and stakeholders who contribute to the strength of our operations.
“We remain committed to continuously enhancing service standards, efficiency and hospitality to ensure every journey through BIA is seamless, safe and welcoming.”
BIA’s continued 5-Star status is a major achievement for the kingdom, underscoring the airport’s role as Bahrain’s main gateway and its contribution to the country’s broader aviation, tourism and economic development goals.
“This milestone also speaks of BIA’s role as Bahrain’s gateway to the world and the airport’s contribution to national ambitions in aviation, tourism and economic growth,” added Mr Janahi.
“As we look ahead, our focus remains on dependable operations, attentive service and ongoing improvement to keep the airport aligned with global best practices.”
The 5-Star Airport Rating is one of the most prestigious and unique marks of quality achievement and serves as a global benchmark of airport excellence, awarded following detailed audit analysis and assessment of each airport’s product and front-line service standards.
The World Airport Star Rating was introduced by London-based Skytrax in 1999 and is a premier evaluation system grading airports on their quality standards.
Bahrain’s state-of-the-art, futuristic $1.1 billion terminal building was designed to deliver comfort and connections with a more personal, Bahraini feel.
BAC has been managing and operating the airport since 2010.
It caters to a growing number of airlines and serves as the regional hub for global cargo companies, including DHL, which has made Bahrain its base to serve the Middle East since the 1980s.
Operations were transferred to the terminal complex in Muharraq in January 2021, increasing the airport capacity to 14 million passengers per year.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said during last week’s Shura Council session that air traffic over Bahrain is among the busiest in the region, with around 260,000 aircraft crossing the kingdom’s Flight Information Region during the first six months of 2025.
He said BIA has an annual capacity of 14m passengers and handled 9.3m last year.
He explained that runway capacity currently allows 27 aircraft movements per hour, with technical upgrades underway to raise this to 38 per hour, which will significantly increase passenger capacity.
