FOOTBALL – Al Khaldiya secured a 3-1 victory over Budaiya in a ninth-round match of the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Football Premier League yesterday.
Saifeddine Bouhra struck from the penalty spot to put Khaldiya ahead in the 30th minute but Budaiya bounced back when Ayman Dairani scored an own goal in the final minutes of the half time.
The teams desperately searched for the lead after the interval and it was an own goal, by Ali Khalil Mubarak in the 69th minute, that enabled Khaldiya to regain control.
They extended the lead five minutes later through Ali Abdulla.
In the ninth round matches played on Sunday, Muharraq eased past Al Najma 2-0 while Sitra saw off Al Ahli 2-1.
In the lone match played on Saturday, Riffa edged past Al Shabab 1-0. The eighth round matches began on Friday, when Malkiya defeated Bahrain Club 2-0 and A’ali registered a 2-1 victory over Al Hidd.
The tenth round of the league begins on Thursday, when two matches will be played.
Budaiya take on A’ali and Al Hidd clash with Al Ahli in the first encounters of the new year. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 7pm.
